older & wiser

Ageing is an art we all too easily overlook since oftentimes it is a double-edged sword. Ageism rears its ugly head in so many cases — a bias too often practiced in societies obsessed with youth and ill equipped to face death.

“For older people, ageism is an everyday challenge. Overlooked for employment, restricted from social services and stereotyped in the media, ageism marginalizes and excludes older people in their communities.” ~ World Health Organization

For menopausal women this is a particular challenge as we undergo a roller coaster ride of changes. I used to laugh at the concept when I was unaffected and I didn’t understand.

With good genes from both parents and our ancestors I would ridicule batchmates who started slowing down years ago and some even a decade or more younger than me.

But the year I turned 65 it all came crashing down on me. Suddenly I noticed soreness or stiffness blooming where there didn’t used to be any. I broke one foot, then two years later, the other as well. How? Running full tilt with heavy bags in both arms. Yes!

Now as I’m aging, my appreciation for life and the process of getting older is expanding. It is an exceptional gift to age year after year — no matter how we feel about our age.

magical mystical life

Our bodies often store in our cells and DNA what our thoughts are unable to process as thoroughly - yet pass through our generations and are often at the effect of and hence affected by.

It is beneficial then to open pathways to build and access this energetic field for deconstruction of what we inherit and a creation of our own true self.

A great way to achieve this would be by expressing ourselves through story. There are a variety of options in which we can choose to do so. Whether we keep it private and intimate or make a public declaration is truly up to each of us.

Journaling, automatic writing, memoir, storytelling, song, performance, expressive art, therapy - the list is endless.

Finding the methodology to access and activate aspects of ourselves that have been culturally exiled - whether within our families or in our communities - liberates us. To acknowledge and embrace our personal power is our birthright.

Storytelling serves as one of life's primary teaching and learning tools - as well as a step toward discovery, perception, contemplation, or realization. The use of phenomenology - our lived experience - ignites the inner wisdom stored within each of our bodies.

This need not be limited to the physical body either - since we are all sensate beings, perceiving life through all our senses. This is an incredibly magical journey we are on!

may we walk in beauty

The Navajo phrase, step in beauty imbues each moment and movement with a goodness that sustains our life force.

Do we allow the space in our lives to allow the goodness to seep into us and let ourselves absorb this energy?

Most of us are often taught it is better to give than to receive - forgetting an entire dimension of life force nurturing and nourishment.

To absorb and digest the amazing frequencies we are exposed to can deepen the connection we have every minute of our day.

vessels of consciousness

All along the eastern seaboard we just had our first major snow storm of the season. Although it's bright and sunny today, it still has not stopped snowing and the sixteen inches of snow is barely melted.

Let's not forget that it's still officially fall and not yet winter, making this sting even more. This first snow is magical and magnificent, even as we shovel white fluff off our sidewalks and driveways into high mounds at inconvenient corners.

Nature in all her glory, her pristine and crystalline brilliance blinding in today's bright sunshine, lords it over all.

Sahasrara, crown chakra

Just like much of 2020, we're not sure how to do this, how long it will take, or what lies beyond this change. For those who have the realization, all we know is we can no longer stay where we were. It feels that the amount of people who are hearing their soul calling has occurred at a much higher number in this pandemic.

ready, willing, able

Dearly Beloveds -

We are invited to immerse our Self in deeply soulful and embodied conversation with every one and every thing that surrounds us.

Step out in the world - embrace the living creatures and breathe in Mother Nature. Attentive to all that surrounds us - in the midst of our urban jungles and out closer to the untamed and wild.

Explore our inner landscape - the structures and systems we build our belief and character on. Touch each item, feel each sensation.

Do they pierce the heart? Do they bring joy and satisfaction?
Do we love them? Are we loved back by them?

Connecting. Cocreating. Collaborating.

Where do I choose to focus my embodied attentiveness?
Does my awareness bring things around me to life?
Make them live? Or be more alive?

What is our relation? our relatedness? our inter-being?
Interrelated. Sparking our being.

Let us enter a conversation.
At once wise and practical

Unfurl our intuition.
Be guided by imagination.

Significant. Purpose filled. Life giving.

"Put down the weight of your aloneness and ease into the
 conversation. The kettle is singing
even as it pours you a drink, the cooking pots
have left their arrogant aloofness and
seen the good in you at last. All the birds
and creatures of the world are unutterably
themselves. Everything is waiting for you."
~ David Whyte from Everything is Waiting for You

Every thing IS waiting for you. Come out and play.

Let go and be lured.
Let be and be allured.

This is the love story that our life is.
Let us find each other here.

2019 revelation

Last year I posted about the age of Kali Yuga on my Change Warrior blog. In 2017 I was fierce yet more hopeful.

If as most believe we are smack in the throes of Kali Yuga until at least 2025 - what then do we do in the meantime?

The general consensus is that Kali Yuga or the iron age already ended on the 21st of December 2012 with the end of the Mayan calendar.

It will take approximately 15 years for the new cycle to begin. We are now in that transition period between 2012 and 2027. The next cycle, Dwapara Yuga, starts in or around 2027.

Why is there such a difference of opinion among various Masters and Gurus or theorists and historians about these dates and their cycles?

According to sacred scripture and historical research much has to do with two main aspects:

[1] Spiritual teachings are often interpreted or presented in different ways throughout the ages - according to the needs of its seekers or audience.

[2] The speed at which humanity experiences these cycles can be affected either way by our conscious awareness at the time these events are unfolding.

In truth, it all boils down to which path or teacher we personally choose to follow, whether we accept the teachings of that path, and how wholeheartedly we apply it in our lives.

Popular belief today encourages us with the practice of kriyas and meditations designed to raise complete body awareness. To prepare the physiological body, nervous system, and intellectual mind to handle the energy of Kundalini rising within us.

Whatever your culture, tradition or belief it would be wise to pay attention and heed your body's needs. May the road to wellness unfold well for each of us.
