feeding my hungry wolf

If you haven't heard this it is a worthwhile teaching tale.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil–he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Today my wolves were in full scale battle and I was on the losing end.

Working on something and getting nowhere. I let loose petty words that hurt too much. Slash and burn. Like a wildfire run amok.

Needed something done and pushing too hard. I let loose harsh words that shamed and blamed. A steam roller overturning everything. Winding us all up.

Waiting for something and frustrated over it not happening. I let loose a stream of scathing emails. Drowning reason in turbulence. Eroding our collaboration.

I lost. So much. Efforting. Willfully. Woefully. Diminished.

sturgeon full moon | August 15

The Open Center in New York City offers monthly Full Moon Circles that I have been meaning to join since I first attended a certificate course in sound healing.
The session I finally attended was officiated by Olivia Olkowski, an Open Center graduate and facilitator. Olivia is a certified Shaman and Curandera of the ancient Mayan healing lineage.

At summer’s peak our large group gathered in the main hall to explore the element of Fire, plant medicine, and areas of the heart.
We were caringly guided through ritual and shamanic journey work to unravel energies within ourselves that were revealed, restored and/or released. Leading us ever towards their purpose in our lives.
Together we collaborated to create a sacred space where we let go of these things that have ripened with the aid of the waning full moon. What no longer served was released - unburdening us on our true path.

Olivia possesses a sweet nurturing energy nourished by her close affinity with Pachamama. This was counterbalanced by her strong and direct condor totem energy.
The two shamanic journeys she guided us through had us traveling incredulous worlds to reveal answers to our questions and imbue our prayers with loving power.
For those who were unable to attend we encourage you to clear your schedule and make the time to come by soon.

soothing the savage beast

That's me!

aswirl in a chaos of lines & patterns

Of late it really does not take much to rile  or ruffle me.

easing into some mindless freefall

I walk around in a daze my heart in shreds at our humanity.

pacing myself, one quadrant at a time

Ready to tear my heart out or tear into others.

slowly & surely, working towards center

Pity the plebe who encounters my wrath.

move, moving, movement

In sheer desperation I turn back to my coloring book to soothe my troubled soul.

mandalas of mine
